What are Neuromodulators?

Botulinum toxin, known as Botox®, is an FDA-approved non-surgical neuromodulator that helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Botox is a substance derived from bacteria that blocks nerve conductions which cause muscle contraction. Botox is commonly used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles to the forehead, frown lines, and crows feet around the eyes; other common areas to utilize Botox include muscles around the jaw, mouth, chin, and neck. Botox is primarily used for cosmetic purposes but is also frequently used for medical purposes as well. The effects of Botox treatments are visible within a few days but peak at 14 days, we recommend you wait at least 14 days prior to reassessing the need for additional product. Treatment lasts anywhere between 3-6 months and can be used alone or in combination with dermal fillers to achieve a more youthful appearance.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers can also treat wrinkles on the face. Like Botox, dermal fillers are injectable. Some are temporary and are used primarily for soft tissues in the mouth and along the smile lines.  Most dermal fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring element in our body that helps hydrate the skin and provide a more youthful appearance. There are other dermal fillers that are composed of calcium hydroxyapatite that provide a stronger structural support for deeper correction. Dermal fillers vary in the amount of structural support they provide and can be used to restore structure and support to underling bony structures such as the checks, chin, nose, and jawline, as well as restoration of fat pad atrophy in the mid face, lips, tear troughs, and temples. The effects of dermal fillers are instantaneous, treatment can last up to 2 years depending on the type of product used and the selected treatment area.

Ideal Candidates For Botox or Dermal Fillers

Botox® and use of dermal fillers are both a relatively safe, non-surgical treatment with few side effects. The cosmetic effects of wrinkle and line reduction as well as restoration of structural support can benefit both men and women, though results may vary. A person's facial structure as well as their musculature dictates where injections should be given and how fast results will show. Ideal treatment candidates are fully aware and accepting of what can be achieved as a result of the treatment. People of all ages can benefit from results based on a realistic and balanced assessment of the outcome. These injectable therapies are not recommended for women who are breastfeeding or pregnant.

Process & Procedure

We will discuss your unique situation during the consultation to determine the best areas to target. Injections are administered using a small needle inserted into specific muscles that create the wrinkles or targeted regions of the face that require structural support.
